Hudson High School

Hudson High School

The Hudson Historical Society has in its archives the program for the official opening of the existing school on May 21, 1948.  At that time, Don Rattraty was principal.  The Reverend F. C. Royle gave the invocation, and the municipalities of Hudson, Hudson Heights, and Como were represented by Major H. D. Dwyer. The Benediction was given by Rev. J. A. Mowatt.  The program included photos.  The gym, now known as the old gym, was described as a "spacious gymnasium-auditorium".  Other photos showed students sitting at their desks in an "airy, well-lighted" classroom.  The modern equipment of the "Household Science Room" was shown as well as the Science Laboratory.   Hudson High School was built in 1919 and consolidated the smaller schools.  An Addition was built in 1939, providing adequate accommod-   ation up until the late war years.  By then the population was growing steadily. A bigger more modern school was needed.  In addition to the new building on Cote St. Charles, officially opened in 1948, land was purchased adjoining the school property for a playing field.  P.
